The benefits of soaking in a hot tub are well documented.  Hydrotheraphy can claim such benefits as lower blood pressure, pain relief, and relaxation. In this posting from Swim University, writer Matt Giovanisci posits the amazing benefits that hot water therapy provides specifically to runners:

Although I’m not a runner myself, I’ve heard a lot about how runners are benefiting from soaking in a hot tub, pre and post workout. That’s why I decided to reach out to some professional runners and get their take on using a hot tub to improve their recovery time.

Soaking in a Hot Tub BEFORE a Run

It made sense to me that soaking in a hot tub before a run would help loosen your body and make the run a little bit easier at the start. It turns out my hunch was right!
