Can Swimming Pools Go “Chemical-free”?
From Healthy Pools
The idea of a “Chemical Free” pool has been touted for decades. The question really is: Can this really be achieved? Many technologies have come into vogue and just as quickly gone out of favor over the years to achieve this ideal. Such chemicals and systems such as monopersulfate, ionization, ozone, mineral purification, salt water chlorine generators, and natural pools have all attempted to achieve the “Chemical Free” pool (although, this seems a bit of a contradiction as they are all technicallly chemicals). This article from Healthy Pools explains the real goal, which is to first kill germs and illnesses, and to sanitize the swimming pool. The real goal, as the article explains, should be to achieve a healthy pool, and not to be concerned about a “chemical free” ideal that probably will never be achieved.
