Depending on your local and municipal codes, you may or may not be required to install a perimeter fence around your inground swimming pool. Some municipalities will allow a fence around the perimeter of the property, as long as it is secured by self-closing, self-latching gates. Some municipalities will remove the requirement for a fence, as long as you have other safety measures in place such as door alarms and safety covers. The overwhelming majority of cities will require a fence, however, and it is important to know what specifications will be required for the fence. Such considerations such as fence height, materials, space between slats or rails, or gate requirements are all crucial to ensuring not only safety, but to ensure that the village or city will allow the installation of the swimming pool without citing a safety violation.
